Party's Over Ladies

We will no longer tolerate the following female behavior

By: Mike Zimmerman

1. You say to us, "You're not romantic anymore." Fine, we'll try harder. But only if you agree to initiate once in a while, too. Deal?

2. Then there's "You never listen." This is not an inherently male trait. I mean, how many times does a guy have to explain the infield-fly rule?

3. No, you don't look fat. Did we mention how you never listen?

4. If you ask our opinion, please don't get mad when we give it. The color of the curtains shouldn't be a referendum on our relationship.

5. It's just a spider, for Pete's sake. Step on it.

6. We worked a 60-hour week, took out the garbage, did the dishes, paid the bills, walked the dog, changed the oil, picked up the dry cleaning, read to the kids, and gave you equal time. All we're asking for is 3 hours on the couch on Sunday.

7. No more deflecting responsibility for crummy behavior with cute and kittenish responses. You can't giggle your way out of trouble anymore.

8. You know damn well what we're doing in there. Stop asking.

9. Forget the notion that raising kids is harder than maintaining gainful employment. More important? Yes. But harder? No.

10. If you continue to dump on our best friend, we will probe the (many) character tics of all your friends.

11. If you want to have kids, you have to have sex. This is not a com-plaint. This is science.

12. Somewhere, somehow, women were sold this idea of "fashionably late." Men don't get this. Make up a fashion emergency if you must, but don't ask us to be intentionally tardy. It's like asking us to kick the host in the groin.

13. Yes, that woman is hot. Yes, we appreciate beauty. That's why we're with you.

14. We do listen. And empathize. But when your troubles have been analyzed until there's nothing left to talk about, can we please stop talking about them?

15. If we fell in love with you when you had long hair, we're going to want you to keep your long hair until death do us part. We'll beg, but would prefer not to.

16. As for commitment ultimatums, just address numbers 1 through 15 on this list, then we'll talk.

Total blurness

I'm supposed to be sleeping now but I feel bad for Agito 'cause he's still colouring the storyboard. Should I sleep or should I just stay awake so that he know that we're not abandoning him and leave all the work for him to do? I seriously don't know.

This must be one of the most fucked up days in my life. I woke up late this morning and Vincent had already left. Alan's still there, so to not make him wait any longer, I didn't shower as I usually do in the morning these days. Thank God I wasn't sweaty.

Late for class, again. Natalya was being boring and sarcastic as usual, though I think she's trying her best. Many people dislike her, but I'm just neutral towards her. She's not a bad lecturer, and she knows her stuff. That's quite adequate, actually. However, I could hardly open my eyes, partly because of Natalya's boring ranting, and partly because of E-theatre's ridiculously cold temperature. It's so cold that it probably works better than cryogenics. If you've got a terminal illness and want to freeze yourself hoping that one day humans would unfreeze you to treat your illness when they've finally managed to find a cure, the E-theatre maybe the cheapest way to do it.

Half way through the lecture she gave us a 10-minute break and we went to hang out in FCM Cafe as usual. I didn't eat anything because frankly, the food there sucks big time. Besides, what kind of food can you enjoy in 10 minutes? Well the rest of the class was boring also, but well, I managed to sleep through most of it so I've got no complaints.

After that was Digital Animation. We were asked to do the tutorials, and I did it. However I was stopped my Tariq because he wanted to demonstrate something to us. To be completely honest, I slept through that as well. It's not that I didn't want to listen. If I could, I would. Cross my heart and hope to die.

Lunch was probably the only good moment of the day. I was hoping to eat some decent Chinese food at the bus station but Kenny, Gary and Agito wanted to pay their fees so Vincent decided to eat in one of the HBs. Seriously, the vendors in the HBs can't cook for shit. The nasi lemak or nasi beriani in HB2 were probably the only proper food you can get from the HBs. Everything went OK, though, and I guess I had a rather nice chat with Vincent about the accident. Yes. Again.

After that it was time for Media Production Process. We're having a quiz today so I thought that it would be great because all we need to do is to finish the quiz ASAP and go home. Creative Studies class was miraculously cancelled. However I got a shock of my life when Ghaz mentioned that the quiz would take place after Woo Ming Jin's lecture. Lecture!? Are you out of your mind? Fine. It wasn't much of a lecture anyways. He just played 2 documentary films on the screen and I, as you probably would have guessed correctly, slept through it, once again. The quiz was quite difficult for me but I still hope I get good grades for it.

Well, after the quiz, there's nothing else. Time to go home and sleep. BAAAAAAAAAA! Wrong!!! Right after I reached home and was settling down, I recieved a call from Ling Yee. She said she's got a car (which actually belongs to her friend) and she needed me to drive her to Putrajaya because her driving license was expired. Well, maybe it'll just take a short while, so I decided to help her. All she wanted was to go to Putrajaya to do a research on motorvehicle insurance. I waited at Cyberia's roundabout, wondering what kind of car I would be driving her to Putrajaya in. While I was waiting several cars passed by, including a Gen 2 (which I had no interest at all in driving), a Satria Neo (which I would like to try), and a Mini (which made me beg the heavens above for it to be the car I'll be driving). I wish I could tell you God was so pleased with me that He granted me my wish. I wish I could tell you that. But reality is no fairy tale. I drove off with Ling Yee in a blue Wira.

We went to the MNI insurance company in Precinct 8 of Putrajaya and she asked for my help to interview one of the agents there, which I unwillingly did, because I'm a nice guy. After that we went back to Cyberjaya but Ling Yee was hungry. So I drove to Ming Chu where I had prawn mee. I wanted to get my regular dose of loh mee but that guy who sells it was having his dinner, and being the nice guy that I am, I decided to not bother him. The prawn mee was OK, but not really satisfactory.

I reached home at around 6.45pm, which was the time I decided to take a nap. Rong and her housemates were going to go out at around 7.30pm so I thought I could rest for a bit. I was just about to start dreaming when Ling Yee called again and asked if I could help her reverse the car because she didn't know how to do it. Sounds fishy but I went to her aid once again because I'm just a darn nice guy. She asked me to drive her to the roundabout where she'll take over the wheels and drive to campus herself. However she showed signs of not knowing what the oil pedal is for, and how to release and handbrake, so I decided that I should just send her to campus, and walk back home after that because she had to leave the car in campus so that her friend could drive home later. What choice do I have but to depend on my legs to carry my big fat ass home?

I got back and found out that Rong and her housemates will go out at 8pm. That gives me a window of about 10 minutes to shower. 15 minutes later, I was driving towards Ming Chu... again... We were going to Jusco, actually. We had dinner at Sushi King, wherein I discovered that my chopstick holding skill was totally crap. Even Aishah could hold it better than me, and I feel truly ashamed of myself. I had chawanmushi (sorry, don't really know the spelling, and don't give a fuck anyways), and some Unagi while making a joke of myself. Rong and Co. bought a cake for Rusdi, whose birthday is today, while I bought a bottle of Sunsilk shampoo. Rong said it would cause hair loss. I don't know how true that piece of information is, but as usual, I don't care.

I came home feeling really tired, and just when I thought I could just have a rest and start doing the storyboard, Heidi called, and said she and Jacintha would come in a short while, for the meeting for the Creative Studies (which Khoo calls "CS" and reminds me of Counter Strike), Creative Communication (which he calls "CC" and reminds me of Cyber Cafe) and Internet Application (which he calls "IA" and reminds me of Intelligent A... er... Bah! forget it) assignments. They were kind enough to let me do the storyboard while they make a mind map for Creative Studies. I finished up my part and let Alan do the rest. Agito would be the one to colour it, we all agreed. Kong came back for a short while and before you know it, he's already having a meeting with Zhou Gong.

After the meeting I rearranged the mind maps that we did and created a presentable copy for tomorrow's possible presentation. Meanwhile, Khoo, Heidi and Jacintha did the creative communication's advertisement thing. I'm glad that the 4 of us work quite well together. Around that time Agito came back, so I asked him to find a way to scan the storyboard into his PC and start colouring, which he refused to do. Kong did it for him, though, so I feel that I should give credit to Kong here. So Agito has been colouring the storyboard till now (I'm not sure if he's still awake but right before I started writing this post he was still awake and doing the job we assigned to him).

Nothing seems right today, even though it's not entirely bad, I wouldn't say it went well at all. And I'm feeling so freaking sleepy right now (oh my, it's 5.13am already!) I'd probably think of skipping tomorrow's class. Right now I'm going to go check on Agito and see if he's OK, but after that I'll just sleep and whether or not he finishes the storyboard, it's out of my hands now. What the hell is wrong with me today anyways?

p/s: In case you haven't noticed the question I put in my YM status, read this carefully and if possible, give me your answer, I'm interested to know:

"If someone you love has a terminal illness that you might be able to cure with enough time spent on research, would you spend time looking for the cure or would you rather spent time with your dying loved one? "

A new chapter

In a secret place that only I know
lies a book connected to my soul
It was once opened by a special girl
who wrote with endless twists and twirls
There was great beauty inside her stories
along with countless unsolved mysteries
I journeyed deep into the book of my soul
but found nothing onto which I could hold
So I closed this book along with her stories
in the depths of my heart I kept it buried
It was not to be found for I'm tired of this game
trading time and emotions for nothing but pain
But then you came and found a path
into the ruins of this broken heart
So effortlessly you uncovered the forgotten book
with your charms that I have never understood
As if with magic you turned the pages of my past
into beautiful memories that will forever last
And with the ink of love you wrote the first line
and so it begins a new chapter of you and I

I love you, Rong.

The accident

Life's full of ups and downs, let's face it. The story that I want to tell right now is not a pleasant one, but I guess it's a good lesson for us all.

So we were in KL, shooting our documentary about a day in the life of a tattoo and piercing artist, and the artist that I'm talking about is Frankie, the boss of Zoo Body Art in Sungei Wang Plaza.

It was a long day because the major tattoo process took around 4 or 5 hours, and by the time we're done shooting, it's around midnight already. So Elyn drove her boyfriend's car to fetch us back to Cyberjaya. However, when we were just about to leave, Mr. Hamid, the guy who rented videocams and lightings to us, asked us to return the equipments to him at The Mall (the location of which none of us knew for sure). Great, so we asked Frankie for the direction and headed that way right after we're done with everything.

All that I could remember is that Frankie told us that we should turn right at Maju Junction. So we were driving along, looking for Maju Junction and unfortunately we missed that junction. In order to go back to that junction Elyn made a (legal) U-turn and headed back. This time we're in an opposite direction so instead of turning right, we should turn left. Makes sense? Right. However as we approached the junction and tried to turn left, we realised that we couldn't, because that was a one way street, so we wanted to turn right instead. So Elyn hit the right indicator and made a right turn.

What happened next happened so quickly I don't even know how it happened before piecing together all the evidence and come up with a logical explanation for it. So basically I heard a scream (from Heidi, I think), and suddenly a motorcycle hit us and flew off to the front, and our car was halted, then immediately after that there was a greater impact that came from the back which sent our car in a 180 degree turn along the Y-axis (the vertical one) and a displacement of a few metres along the X-axis (the horizontal one, like, duh!).

Right after I regained "consciousness" after the sudden shock I went out of the car to check if the motorcyclist was OK. He could still walk, but with a limp. Some scratches and abrasions on the skin, and nothing else, I think. No broken bones whatsoever, I presume. He certainly didn't look happy, and he didn't look strong enough to be of any physical threat to us, so I wasn't too worried about him. However, the taxi drivers came and wanted to find trouble. They kept pointing their fingers at us, taking photos of our car and number plate, and calling us names like "penipu" (liar) and "sombong" (arrogant) and "bodoh" (stupid). So Elyn had an argument with those furious taxi drivers (yes, several of them, even though there was just one of them involved in the accident).

The passersby weren't much of a help either, because all they manage to do is provoke the taxi drivers and make the situation a whole lot worse. I'm not being racist here, but let's face it (if you're a foreigner you might want to take notice of this; and if you're a Malaysian and had never met with this kind of situation before, read carefully). In Malaysia, when an accident happens between people of the same race, things get settled quickly and relatively more peacefully. Either someone pays up, or they call the police. However when it happens between people of different races, chances are that there might be a fight, and usually passersby would join in to create more trouble. Once again, this is not a racist statement, this is a fact. I've seen this happen several times now. It's worse when it happens in rural areas.

So while Elyn was busy arguing with those taxi drivers, I called the police and made a report. After that, I called Frankie, who was near the area, just so that we're not totally isolated. The situation was that the 5 of us were the only Chinese around, and to tell you the truth, I was really, really afraid. Also, I called Mr. Hamid to come to Maju Junction to get his equipment back, with the hope that he could speak for us a little, so as to lower the tension a bit (which he did).

So about 2 to 3 minutes later, Frankie arrived and asked if we're OK. The police arrived slightly after that (or was it the other way round, I couldn't really remember). Seeing that the police had arrived, Frankie decided to leave, which I think is the right thing to do, because we had trouble him enough for the documentary, and he didn't have to get involved in this. The police checked the scene and took down some identifications, but the taxi drivers kept asking Elyn for her IC, and kept saying, "Ini undang-undang (this is the law)!" So, feeling that they're bullying her, I went up and said (and I stress that I said it in a very polite way), "The police had arrived, and they've taken her identifications and all, so just let them settle this, ok?" Know what? That guy stared at me with this I'm-not-talking-to-you-so-why-don't-you-shut-the-fuck-up-or-I'll-beat-the-crap-out-of-you look and yelled at me, "What are you saying, huh? What do you know? This is the law!" Of course, we conversed in Malay, while Elyn was the only one who spoke English for reasons unknown to me. Her actions (speaking in English), of course, met with most unpleasant reactions. He said to her, "[lorem ipsum dolor sit amet]... Cakap Bahasa Melayu lah! Kenapa cakap Bahasa Orang Putih? Sombong!" The "lorem ipsum" part was something he said before that, which I couldn't remember, and had no wish to remember.

So a few minutes later, Mr. Hamid arrived. He asked us to quickly get his equipments and load them into his van, and I thought that he's trying to escape as soon as we're done loading. However I was wrong. He actually came and tried to understand the situation, and tried to get us out of trouble. He even get scolded by those taxi drivers for helping us, and among those unpleasant words I heard him being scolded with was "malu" (shame). I felt bad for him, but at the same time, really grateful. There was another (Malay) guy who advised us to leave the scene as soon as possible, and I would really like to thank him for being the few who were actually trying to solve the matter instead of creating more trouble.

So after taking some statements one of the police officers came to me and said, "You better go to the police station now. I'm just patrolling this area and I came by just to see to it that the situation is under control, but if people get into fights or anything I'll arrest all that's involved. Since I've checked everything and nobody's making any trouble, I'll leave it to the traffic department and go on duty soon, so if you still want to stay here and later if anything happens, it's out of our hands."

Wow, how helpful is that? So I went to the other police officer and asked if he could help escort us to the nearest police station, which they agreed to and did. So all that followed were simply procedures. Filing reports and all. The taxi driver never showed up to report the accident that night. I don't know whether or not he did it the next day, and I don't care. I'm just glad it was over with.

So here's a piece of advice for you all out there. If you meet with a minor accident and either one of you were willing to pay up, just take the money and leave. If it's not, call the police and let the police handle it. If you feel that it's not your fault and you've got people on your side, please for the love of God don't be an asshole and try to bully the other party or take matters into your own hands! By doing so you're not solving the matter at all, you're just making it a whole lot worse! If you feel that you're not guilty but you're outnumbered by those who think otherwise, call the police, don't argue or quarrel with them, or you might get yourself into trouble. And if you're just a pedestrian or passerby, you can either help the injured, or help to prevent a fight, or just stand there and watch. If what you decide to do wasn't one of these 3 options, please FUCK OFF!!!
