Merry Christmas

Quite some things happened these few days and I thought... why not blog about it? So here it is.

First of all it started with me thinking that this would be the worst Christmas ever for me, because of the multimedia authoring submission. I remember that morning I slept at around 4am, after compiling our group work and burning it into a CD. Everything seemed fine.

I was wrong and couldn't believe even till this very moment how wrong I was. Let's look at it at a third person's point of view, shall we? So early that morning, say around 8am, Vincent, Kenny, Agito and Gary were up and ready to go to campus for their presentation for Malaysian Studies. These are the four people who usually go to campus together in Vincent's car, and they are always early, relatively speaking. Another characteristic that they don't share with the other group, namely Alan, Kong, Khoo and I, was that they knew that submission time was from 9am to 10am, and within this group, I was the only one who's not taking Malaysian Studies. In other words, I do not have presentation on that day, and waking up early wasn't my choice.

So, Alan and the other two woke up later, say, 8.30am, and headed to campus, leaving me sleeping alone at home (and not knowing that submission was due 10am). They went to campus and were ready to present the work they prepared, but before they got to do that, they heard the shocking news about Mr. Ken Neo's time window. Immediately they bailed out of the lecture hall and began their sacred quest of submitting the MCP (multimedia authoring) project CD. Well, I figured they should have enough time to do so but you know what? Nobody even thought of giving me a phonecall and wake me up. No one. At all. Alan submitted his CD immediately, while Khoo made up an excuse to delay his submission because he hadn't burned all the required elements of the project into the CD. And so he asked for and was granted permission to submit a bit later.

They then went to Cik Gee, our tutor, to get Khoo's intro CD (the one containing the intro that he did not burn into the CD that he had to submit to Mr. Ken Neo). Only after that, they headed back home and while Khoo was busy burning his CD, Alan woke me up as if it was just another usual day with nothing unusual going on. I woke up, grabbed my CD, and headed to campus with them, still not knowing that I had to submit before 10am.

So when I reached campus, I was still filling in the questionaire by Cik Gee that we had to submit, and Khoo just gave me his CD and questionaires, asking me to submit the CD to Mr. Ken Neo, the questionaire to Cik Gee, and then return the CD containing his intro of the project to Cik Gee. It was when I was on my way to submit those things that I remembered that I had also forgotten to burn my intro into the CD I was supposed to submit.

So I went to the lecture hall and stood outside, messaged Alan telling him that I need to borrow his car. I really don't know what the hell he was doing, he didn't get my message till much later, when it was already too late. Fortunately for me (relatively speaking, of course, as the following events that took place is hardly anywhere near fortunate to me at all), Vincent and the others were walking towards me so I asked them where they were going. They said they'd be going to eat and I told them I my problems. So Vincent decided to help. He sent me back home to burn the CD and then back to campus to submit the CD. However it was on the way when I finally realized that I was terribly, terribly late for submission. Even though Kenny had played a few pranks on me before about how my attendance was unsatisfactory and the dean wanted to see me, this time he seemed pretty serious about it.

Well, might as well just try my luck, I thought. So I went to Mr. Ken Neo's office hoping that he'd accept my CD. As you would've already guessed, he didn't. To describe the whole event, I can only use a "Manglish" sentence:

"He die die also dun wanna accept my CD lo!"

I tried making up stories and tried begging. I even asked him to check my records and see how many times I had been late (which is none, in case you're stupid enough to wonder). He just wouldn't accept it. So I had no choice but to thank him (thank him!? He should be the one thanking me for not slitting his fat and nearly unapparent throat with something... something lethal in a very horrific sense... like a chainsaw for instance!) and leave his office, all shattered and down.

(Well, of course that was how I felt at that very moment, but then come to think of it, it was entirely my fault if not my housemates', so I really don't blame Mr. Ken Neo, he's just doing his job and being serious about it, and as much as I still hate him right now, I respect his decision.)

I went to Cik Gee's and submitted the questionaire papers. Cik Gee went to the toilet, I think, and there were no one in the room, and I experienced one of the worst case of helplessness and hopelessness I've ever been through. Gary called while I was waiting for Cik Gee, I think, and I sort of scolded him I think. Actually to be exact I wasn't waiting for Cik Gee outside her office. I was merely standing there, trying to figure out what kind of grades I would get this time, and how to cover my ass. After a while Cik Gee came back and she said sorry for keeping me waiting. I said it was OK and followed her into her office, where she then told me that marks are given by tutors, and not Mr. Ken Neo. However I don't feel convinced, but what choice do I have?

After a while I went to the lecture halls again, and this time I just sat outside, trying to look for people who would save me. As I expected, there were only 2 people in this world who could help me through all these. One is already dead, and the other one hasn't been born. Alan and Khoo later came out of the lecture hall and asked me what happened, and Khoo promised he would help me submit mine as he would have to personally submit his own as well. I knew it wouldn't work, but agreed to let him help all the same. That happened much later, and as I had expected, Mr. Ken Neo only accepted his CD and not mine.

I was super moody and that time and mad at everyone around me, especially at Khoo and Alan who didn't wake me up for the submission. Even right now as I am typing I'm at the verge of ripping their guts out. I was so mad at them at that time that I wanted to just go back to sleep and not talk to any of them for the whole day. But then later I thought, even if I did that it's not going to do any good at all, because my CD is already rejected, and there's nothing anyone could do about it. So I started talking again. I also chatted with Shiew Woei and Carlyn for a while, and they told me marks would be given by tutors, so hopefully it won't affect my grades in a large scale, it helped cheering me up a bit.

The whole weekend had been OK and Christmas was better than expected, even though the fact that I didn't get to submit my CD is still pricking and hurting me everytime I think of it. We watched Eragon (if you trust me, don't watch it) on Saturday, and went present hunting in 1U. The next day, we went to The Mines, with the hope to catch Ben Stiller's latest comedy, "Night at The Museum", but failed. What we did was walk around and help Gary decide what to buy for his Christmas present exchange thingie with a group of his friends. Boy was he undecisive. Then yesterday we went to Times Square with Alan, then to Low Yat, and then had dinner in SS2 before we came back to Cyberia where I visited Rong and Shin, gave them their presents and Jazlyn's, and sat down to watch (the real life version of) Chibimaruko or whatever it's called with them. Upon my return we played Chor Dai Dee, Khoo, Gary, Edward and I. Things went well, I suppose, and I won't complain. It's the time of the year when we should put away everything and just enjoy some good time with people we're close to, and I did exactly that. I'm also glad that Rong and Shin liked the mugs I bought for them.

So, to conclude, I'd like to just wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy new year. Oh, and I'd like to add that the only present I got this year was a box of chocolates with a layer of mint in the middle from Shell, but it's good enough for me. So, thanks, Shell.

Pool is fun!

It must've been like... 30 billion years since the last time I played pool. Why? Well, I owe it all to Keith, my cousin, who introduced me to the cousin of that game I used to love so much - snooker.

People who plays snooker would most likely say that snooker is so much more challenging than pool, and as a snooker player myself, I'd think that way too. But wait! There's more to it. Being more challenging doesn't mean being more fun, as it could be very frustrating sometimes playing snooker. 1st there's the smoke as snooker centres are usually full of imbeciles trying to smoke their lungs into bronchogenic carcinoma (that's lung cancer to you and me). 2nd, Keith's just so cocky at times, and he's simply too good. He could start at a very low point of negative 40 and still win. Maybe it's just that I'm too weak. But anyhoo... he's not a very patient teacher, and playing snooker with him is a pain in the ass.

So Rong and Shin were telling me about playing pool at a place I hadn't been to before - Old Town Kopitiam. Even though I tried so desperately to save money, I couldn't resist the temptation of going to Ming Chu (near Jusco) for some decent chinese food and playing pool afterwards.

Let's skip the dinner part. Everything was fine and... well... boring, so to speak, till Kong and I got to the pool tables behind Old Town Kopitiam. We started playing while waiting for the girls, namely Rong, Shin, Steph and Jaz, to come. Heard they were buying durian in Jusco or something. So yeah, my skills were a bit rusty as I wasn't taking things seriously at the very beginning. Kong beat me twice, and both times I was left with ball number 12.

After a while the girls arrived. They started playing but no one wanted to break because Kong and I were watching. They finally did break, but were doing rather badly, I think. So i decided to act like I'm a pro and started teaching them the correct posteur for playing pool. In case you're wondering, I didn't go behind each of them and show them from behind how the pose should be, though what wonderful experience that would've been >:)

Anyways, Kong and I started playing again when we started to get a lil' bored of their (the girls') game. This time, I had the chance to get rid of ball number 12 early in the game and I did. And guess what? I won, haha! Rong was impressed, I guess, but later Kong got a phonecall from his girlfriend, and he had to step out of the place so that he could talk in a mushy manner to his girlfriend without being teased till death by us, while I decided to do a lil' more coaching.

Incredibly, both Rong and Shin were rather fast learners, and they pick things up very quickly. In no time at all I have witnessed both of them doing shots that even I had no confidence in perfecting. Not bad, not bad at all!

Well, of course I'm not such an unfair person. I also taught Jaz and Steph how to make good shots and all, but the way Jaz's left hand (the one that supports the cue) never touches the table was really funny and hopeless. I kept seeing her having the correct angle but still miss the shot because the moment the cue shot forward, it became slanted to one side. I tried teaching her as much as possible to a point where I think she kind of got pissed off and sent the cue ball towards my finger which was still pointing at the part of the table to show her where the cue ball should be headed. She almost had my finger flattened between 2 balls.

On the other hand, Steph wasn't too happy having me around either, I think, as she was kind of frustrated when I managed to help Shin and Rong score a bundle. I tried helping her but she's got some problems with her posteur. Not that she could help it anyways, as she's wearing something that would expose the twins if she's not careful. I tried to look elsewhere and look innocent, and I hope she buys it.

So after some turns, Steph got really frustrated and went out to get a bottle of... not sure if it was a Carlsberg or Heineken. It made my mouth water, nonetheless. Seriously... I would surely love to have a bottle of those, if the price hadn't been so expensive! Curse our government! Why do we need to buy booze at such a high price just because the "earthly prince" of this piece of land are not supposed to drink alcoholic drinks (which they still do)? Lame! Go on and cover your eyes and ears and say it's not happening, you bloody stupid ostriches! Go bury your heads underneath the sand!

So as I was saying, Shin and Rong were doing very well, while Jaz and Steph were struggling to get the balls into the pockets. So finally, after some 4 or 5 games, they decided that it's time to go back and I thought I'd check on Kong. Coincidentally he just got off the phone with his girlfriend, so I challenged him to another match which the girls stayed and watch, hehe. Well, maybe it's the girls, or maybe just my luck, I won again, this time anihilating Kong totally. I didn't mean to, but everything just went well for me in that game.

Poor Kong was complaining to me later that nobody saw his victories earlier on because the girls weren't there yet, and the 2 games that I won were played when the girls were watching. Well, what can I say? Better luck next time? Hehehe! I went home, feeling deeply satisfied having played a game that I have always loved ever since I touched the first cue stick of my life.

Lost Christmas

I wish
Christmas could be good again
You could forget everything
Just for one day

I'd take you right back
To when you were a little girl
To when each day promise you pearls
Before you grow up

And I wish
That we owned a house we live in
And I wish
That we had no bills to pay
And I wish
I could find something this Christmas
Something so valuable
That it didn't cost

Happy Christmas to you
May all your dreams come true
And may somebody save you tonight
And may you still believe that I might
And may some things just turn out alright...
